                                                                                           Prologue

A large blue-grey tom sat with his back to the running stream. He was scratching lines into the soft mud by a small pond on the other side of a clearing. Another, slightly smaller tom jumped out of a nearby tree. He landed softly by the first cat.
“Now what must you be doing, Flooding Water?” the ginger tom said with a slight growl. “Why not just let it be at peace?” he muttered.
“Blazing Fire, my dear friend,” Flooding Water meowed, not turning to face him. “What is there to leave at peace? Have I not let myself be taken to peace?” the blue tom pondered out loud.
Blazing Fire gave a growl. “Our time is done. We have done what we need to. We must let our kin grow in their own path.” He said, softening his voice and padding near the other cat.
From the shadows of the surrounding trees, a small red cat padded out. The moonlight bounced off her fur, making it shine. “Frozen Skies,” Flooding Water dipped his head at the newly approaching cat. “You’ve come.” He said aloud.
“Yes, I did receive the message,” the she-cat rumbled. She sat down softly by what Flooding Water had drawn. “A map of the Packs?” She asked, curiosity sharpening her voice as she saw the image. Blazing Fire gave a pointed growl behind them. She ignored it.
“Many moons ago, we were the first leaders of the Packs,” Flooding Water said, his voice wise. “It is a hard time for our kin. We must guide them, and help them the best we can.” He said, turning his face to the other two past leaders. “You can see what is happening as well as I can,” his voice had gotten a sharp twinge.
Blazing Fire narrowed his eyes. Frozen Skies flicked her tail, waiting for someone to add something. “We’ve gone through much worse, and survived it,”
Frozen Skies was still deathly silent, only her tail giving a consistent flick back and forth. Her bright eyes were narrowed as she waited for Flooding Water to speak.
He pondered what Blazing Fire had said before replying. “My Pack, our Packs, are facing new challenges. Water Pack is strong, but I worry often if they can handle it well, or if they will collapse.”
He turned to the other to leaders. “Our kin, and our Packs, need Shinning Packs guidance. If you will not supply that, your Packs may fall under the new dangers.” He turned his back to the other two cats, and began to scratch more lines into his map.
Frozen Skies opened her mouth to speak, and then closed it again. Blazing Fire leaped into the tree he had come from, and disappeared from sight. Frozen Skies, sighing, padded back into the shadow of the trees, not to be seen.
